Intervista ai Phinx: login

Intervista - Una giovane band. Un album fresco ed idee molto chiare. PillBox incontra i Phinx. Alla scoperta del loro ultimo album Login ... Domande filosofiche: chi siete, da dove venite?

Quattro ragazzi che sognano di vivere facendo quello che amano di più, ovvero scrivere e suonare la propria musica.

Veniamo tutti da Bassano del Grappa.

Cosa vi ha spinto ad avventurarvi nel “tragico” mondo discografico?

Quando decidi di iniziare un progetto musicale non pensi certamente al mondo discografico. La musica è prima di tutto una questione personale. Scrivi, arrangi, produci, sperimenti, suoni prima di tutto per te stesso. Poi se decidi di condividere il tuo lavoro è chiaro che vedere persone che lo ascoltano, lo apprezzano, si emozionano e riescono ad entrare nel mondo di vibrazioni da te creato, è qualcosa di molto importante e gratificante.

Il fare musica è un'altra cosa rispetto al mondo discografico.

Come mai avete scelto l’inglese per i testi dei vostri brani?

Principalmente per una questione sonora. L'italiano è una lingua molto bella, con una musicalità ben precisa e molto potente dal punto di vista del significato. Un ascoltatore italiano che ascolta un brano in lingua italiana tendenzialmente e spesso involontariamente, ascolta come prima cosa il testo. Nell'inglese invece, anche per un madre lingua, le liriche non vengono percepite immediatamente, ma quello che arriva all'ascoltatore è tutto l'insieme musicale. Mi capita spesso di ascoltare musica italiana magari molto interessante dal punto di vista strumentale, ma con dei testi che banalizzano e appiattiscono il tutto. Con l'inglese questo rischio e minore. Nel nostro caso non vogliamo che il testo sia la prima cosa ad essere percepita, bensì la musica e il suono in generale. Questo non vuol dire che i testi devono essere per forza trascurati anzi, ho personalmente dedicato parecchio tempo e impegno alla stesura degli stessi. Questo ci permette però di renderli una lettura di secondo livello rispetto a ciò che vogliamo porre in primo piano, ossia tutto l'insieme musicale.

Quale messaggio volete mandare a chi acquista / scarica / ascolta il vostro album?

I messaggi sono molteplici ed eterogenei, ma la maggior parte di essi legati ad una immaginario legato alla nostra vita di tutti giorni. Siamo assistendo ad un vero e proprio sdoppiamento della realtà, tra quella concreta e quella virtuale, tanto che sempre più spesso l'una interseca l'altra rendendone sempre meno oggettivi i confini e generando degli immaginari tanto originali quanto inquietanti. In questo album abbiamo descritto in maniera personale attraverso i suoni, i testi e l'aspetto grafico, quello che ogni giorno negli ultimi anni ci siamo trovati davanti. Il risultato è stato di conseguenza un ritratto volutamente freddo, ma complementare a quello caldo e sudato che proponiamo nei live.

Non pensate che scrivere canzoni in inglese possa far perdere forza al vostro messaggio, pensando naturalmente al vostro pubblico più prossimo: quello italiano?

Abbiamo già parzialmente risposto nella domanda precedente.

Facciamo una musica di base molto fisica nella quale la prima cosa che si vuol fare arrivare è il lato musicale senza il contenuto dei testi in primo piano. Così facendo l'ascoltatore può scegliere se lasciarsi trasportare solo dai suoni o approfondire l'intero discorso andando a leggersi anche le liriche. In Italia si ascolta più musica cantata in inglese che in italiano perciò crediamo che questo problema ormai non sussista più. L'inglese è ormai la lingua europea e perciò appartenente anche alla nostra cultura.

Quali sono state le difficoltà durante la realizzazione del vostro ultimo album?

E' stata la prima volta per tutti, ma avevamo tutti voglia di metterci in gioco. Abbiamo iniziato questo percorso con delle persone che hanno creduto in noi sin dal primo concerto che abbiamo fatto in una sagra di paese e con loro abbiamo lavorato per raggiungere questo risultato. Chiaro è che quando si lavora con altre persone è normale si creino anche momenti di contrasto, dove la tensione cresce, le idee non combaciano ecc… Alla fine però siamo giunti tutti soddisfatti alla concretizzazione di questo primo obiettivo, abbiamo imparato dai nostri errori e dagli errori altrui, cresciuti grazie a noi stessi e gli altri. Ora siamo pronti per iniziare a lavorare al presente e al futuro di questo progetto, volenterosi e determinati.

I momenti belli e quelli brutti durante la promozione di Login…

La promozione è iniziata da poco in realtà. Siamo però tutti molto affiatati tra band, i nostri produttori e la nostra discografica. Stanno tutti lavorando con grande entusiasmo. Il riscontri sono molto positivi e siamo tutti molto soddisfatti di come stanno andando le cose.

E' anche logico che quando decidi di metterti in gioco sei soggetto oltre che ai complimenti anche alle critiche essendo comunque una band giovane e al suo primo lavoro. Siamo però consapevoli di ciò che facciamo, del lavoro che c'è dietro e l'unica cosa che ci importa è creare e suonare la nostra musica.

Quando vi riterrete soddisfatti dei risultati che eventualmente raggiungerete come band?

Crediamo che la soddisfazione perenne sia qualcosa difficilmente raggiungibile per l'uomo, in generale. Qualunque sia il risultato ottenuto si tenderà sempre a cercare qualcosa di migliore o diverso. Parlando più concretamente per noi è già una grande soddisfazione essere riusciti a vent'anni a pubblicare un disco che rappresenti la nostra esperienza musicale degli ultimi tre anni, senza vincoli discografici o limitazioni artistiche. Adesso stiamo già lavorando al materiale per un secondo album ed essendo i live per noi la cosa più importante, il nostro obbiettivo è farne sempre di più, sempre in più posti e magari non solo in Italia. E' fresca di pochi giorni la notizia dell'inizio della collaborazione con Virus Concerti che gestirà tutto il discorso legato proprio ai live e siamo anche per questo molto contenti.

Pensate possibile una miracolosa rinascita del mondo discografico italiano (anche in termini di fatturato)?

Leggendo dai giornali sembra che l'economia musicale dopo un lungo periodo di decadenza si stia lentamente risollevando. Se le vendite dei cd non costituiscono praticamente più una reale fonte di guadagno, dall'altra parte i concerti continuano a rendere qualcosa insieme alle vendite del merchandising. Chiaramente per i gruppi emergenti la situazione è più difficile perché nel nostro territorio le cover band sono molte e sono anche quelle più pagate. Tutto questo perché in Italia le persone preferiscono andare in birreria ad ascoltare qualcosa di già conosciuto piuttosto che andare in qualche club che propone musica originale.

Bisogna cercare di rendere tutti più curiosi ed intraprendenti, non essere troppo chiusi nelle proprie idee, ma essere disposti a provare anche stimoli differenti da quella che è la propria natura o la propria abitudine. E' più un fatto culturale secondo noi, ma è giusto credere che le tante buone idee che ci sono anche qua in Italia possano un po' alla volta trovare il loro spazio per riuscire dignitosamente ad esistere e crescere.
