Band di New York, composta da : Jon Spencer (voce, chitarra), Judah Bauer dei Boss Hog (chitarra) e Russell Simins degli Honeymoon Killers (batteria): un trio senza basso e un theremin che Spencer usa sia in studio che dal vivo! Non solo il nome ma anche il sound è "esplosivo": definita come band punk Blues, nei sui album in realtà combina di tutto dal rock and roll al rockabilly al blues, al soul... insomma dal vivo sono una vera scarica adrenalinica. A distanza di 3 anni dalla loro ultima pubblicazione "Jukebox Explosion Rockin''"ritornano in tour in Italia a settembre.
Sono i primi anni novanta quando, dopo la fine della sua band “Pussy Galore”, JON SPENCER crea Jon Spencer Blues Explosion insieme a Russell Simins (batteria) e Judah Bauer (chitarra).
I tre si incontrano a New York e cominciano a suonare insieme, quasi per caso.
Jon Spencer Blues Explosion non è però un gruppo blues a tutti gli effetti: “I do not play no blues, I play Rock’n’Roll” è una frase che, ironicamente o no, sta spesso sulla bocca di Jon.
Il blues è presente attraverso cliches, che però vengono incorporati nel loro sound essenzialmente anarchico.
Nel 1992 esce “Jon Spencer Blues Explosion” e nello stesso anno “Crypt Style”.
Infaticabile, instancabile, Jon Spencer è anche la mente di un altro progetto: i Boss Hog (la voce del gruppo è la moglie Cristina Martinez).
Insieme danno la luce ad un figlio e cinque album, tra i quali i celeberrimi “Boss Hog” e “White Out”.
Dal 1992 sono passati ormai 16 anni e Jon Spencer Blues Explosion sono uno dei gruppi più creativi e prolifici della scena alternative mondiale, con la realizzazione di molti dischi e spettacoli live unici e imperdibili.
