Le Strisce sono cinque universitari di Napoli, ragazzi abituati a scrivere e suonare fino a tarda notte, e a svegliarsi solo dopo mezzogiorno.
Davide, il cantante, autore di tutti i testi (si definisce «un classico chitarrista da falò») studia Giurisprudenza; Andrea, chitarra, Biologia; Raffaele, batteria, Ingegneria Aerospaziale; Enrico, chitarra, Architettura, e Francesco (aka “Zoid”) basso, Scienze della Natura.
Le Strisce fanno musica ispirata alle band più fresche del panorama rock contemporaneo, soprattutto inglese e americano: solo che, a differenza di molti altri rocker nostrani, di cantare in inglese non ne vogliono affatto sapere.
«Siamo un gruppo pop camuffato da gruppo rock», scherzano.
Le Strisce, che vengono dai comuni di Marano, Aversa, Quarto e Capodimonte, si sono conosciuti in una sala prove. «All'inizio ci chiamavamo Goya, perché Goya dipingeva di notte. Ma con i primi pezzi di cui eravamo davvero convinti, siamo diventati definitivamente Le Strisce».
Prima ancora di registrare le canzoni, il quintetto ha creato una pagina MySpace solo per far sapere al mondo che esisteva. «Mandavamo in giro viral con scritte tipo “Le Strisce hanno la coda di paglia”, “Le Strisce qui lo dicono e qui lo negano” e robe simili. Invitavamo gente di gruppi famosi a concerti che non avremmo mai fatto». Poi sono arrivati i due demo «buttati giù alla bell'e meglio», migliaia di contatti, la lista degli amici che si allunga di ora in ora.
Di qui, in breve tempo, la chiamata da un’etichetta importante, la EMI, il primo EP, intitolato “Fare Il Cantante” e la ribalta live, esplosa il giorno in cui la band ha aperto il concerto dei Kooks ai Magazzini Generali di Milano e proseguita senza soste in giro sui palchi di tutta Italia.
Il loro album di debutto è arrivato nel 2010: “Torna ricco e famoso” è composto da 12 tracce caustiche e ispirate, che cantano e raccontano lo spaesamento dei ragazzi di oggi di fronte a un mondo che non offre punti di riferimento certi, se non modelli effimeri e risposte parziali.
Gli ultimi mesi sono stati intensi: interviste, tour promozionali, una nuova, lunga serie di date (tra le quali l’apertura al concerto dei Babyshambles a Ferrara), il primo vero confronto con pubblico e critica che stanno scoprendo la pungente lucidità, e l’originalità della band.
Ciò non ha impedito ai ragazzi di continuare a scrivere e registrare nuove canzoni, con uno sguardo sempre più disilluso sulla loro città, il loro paese, il loro tempo.
